About Me
Hey there!I'm Mikee, a self-taught graphic designer from Tacloban City, Philippines! I love creating colorful stickers, apparel, and novelty items that celebrate human emotions, self-love, and mental health awareness.
My Journey
Growing up, I always wanted to be a designer. But living in a small city with limited college programs, I took a different path and studied BS Psychology. After passing the psychometrician licensure exam, I moved to a bigger city and enrolled in an MA in Clinical Psychology, aiming to become a licensed psychologist. While juggling my day job at a busy diagnostic clinic, I took on part-time graphic design projects as a creative outlet and to help pay for my grad studies. After 2.5 years, I realized the 8-5 grind wasn't for me. Feeling lost and questioning my choices, I decided to take a leap of faith and chase my dream as a freelance designer.
The Birth of The Positivity Cure
During this time, I started making positivity-themed stationery as a way to cope with my existential crisis. I joined my first art market and met amazing people who supported my brand, art, and advocacy. I was invited to a mental health event and had the opportunity to display my products at Craft Story (which sadly closed during the pandemic).I took a 2-year hiatus from social media during the pandemic and put The Positivity Cure in the back seat because my anxiety worsened during this time.
The Rebrand to Studio Mikee
By 2022, I felt like I was ready to make art again. I knew I wanted to join art markets again, build an online community, but my former brand wasn't aligning with my new perspective anymore. I decided to rebrand to a name that is more personal, so I went with Studio Mikee. Although I loved my previous brand, I felt like connecting with people as a real person with genuine emotions is the path I want to take, rather than connecting through a brand that limits me from sharing my personal stories. Here at Studio Mikee, I want to create art, share my mental health journey, and give you a slice of life as an artist living in the province, trying to live a slow creative life.🙂✨
